Why green spaces are important?
Green spaces are essential for supporting health, wellbeing and community connection. Access to parks, gardens and other natural environments provide opportunities to relax, unwind and enjoy the outdoors. Research shows that spending time in green spaces can help reduce stress, anxiety and depression while improving overall mood and mental wellbeing.
Green spaces also encourage people of all ages to be more physically active. Whether walking, cycling, playing or simply exploring nature, regular outdoor activity can improve cardiovascular health, support healthy lifestyles and reduce the risk of chronic illnesses.
Beyond the individual benefits, green spaces play a vital role in bringing communities together. They provide welcoming places for recreation, relaxation and social interaction, helping to strengthen relationships, reduce feelings of isolation and build more connected, resilient communities. By creating opportunities for people to meet and engage with their local communities, green spaces contribute significantly to a healthier and happier society.
